Where will they battle? B<em>astrop Baila and Beats<\/em>;&nbsp;an inaugural event funded by a grant from the Bastrop Cultural Arts Commission. Baila and Beats&nbsp;is&nbsp;a&nbsp;free&nbsp;one-day&nbsp;celebration, exhibition and competition taking place at&nbsp;the Fay Performing Arts Center. This event is hosted by Bastrop local Patrick &ldquo;Pac Man&rdquo; Perez in partnership with Bastrop&nbsp;County&nbsp;Cares, Dance Across Austin and Mindpop!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Bastrop Baila and Beats will feature an immersive dance panel discussion&nbsp;where&nbsp;dancers&nbsp;from&nbsp;various backgrounds, abilities and styles&nbsp;will share how&nbsp;dance helps&nbsp;shape&nbsp;their&nbsp;identity,&nbsp;foster&nbsp;community and build resilience. Each guest dancer will showcase their dancing&nbsp;(some to classical music), teach a few moves to attendees and take&nbsp;questions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Expect&nbsp;to&nbsp;see&nbsp;Popping, Krumping, Breaking and more! Spanish translation and ASL interpretation services will be on-&nbsp;site for the panel discussion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Event founder Perez emphasizes,&nbsp;&#8220;This event celebrates our differences and the unique&nbsp;style&nbsp;our&nbsp;differences bring to dance. There&rsquo;s \ufb02avor and \ufb02are in our differences&hellip; that&rsquo;s power!&nbsp;Plus, Breaking&nbsp;is&nbsp;\ufb01nally&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;Olympics! It&rsquo;s&nbsp;about&nbsp;time!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Following the discussion panel will be a&nbsp;1 vs&nbsp;1 Breaking competition (&ldquo;Breaking&rdquo; being&nbsp;the correct term instead of &ldquo;Break Dance&rdquo;) and a&nbsp;1 vs&nbsp;1 All Styles competition&nbsp;(All&nbsp;Styles meaning&nbsp;any style of dance.) Competitors, guest dancers and&nbsp;judges from Bastrop, Austin, San Antonio and surrounding areas will be in&nbsp;attendance&nbsp;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">AJ Abrams (better known by his DJ name <em>AceThunda <\/em>in San Antonio) will be bringing the music&nbsp;to the battles. &ldquo;I like how this event makes it a point to give&nbsp;every person&nbsp;a&nbsp;voice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">With Breaking making it&rsquo;s historical Olympic Debut August 9th and&nbsp;10th, Bastrop Baila and Beats will kick off a line-up of Breaking events across Texas, including B-Boy City in Austin&nbsp;and Ritual Warfare in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&#8220;We&#8217;re thrilled Breaking is receiving this recognition,&#8221; says Perez,&nbsp;&#8220;It&#8217;s a&nbsp;shoutout to B-Boys&nbsp;and&nbsp;B Girls&nbsp;worldwide&nbsp;who&#8217;ve&nbsp;kept&nbsp;this&nbsp;culture&nbsp;alive.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Baila and Beats is free to attend, spectate&nbsp;and compete.
